Eighty years young as OS football enters a new era!

When the ball was bounced on April 1 to start season 2000, OS Football Club opened a new chapter in its magnificent eighty year history in the VAFA.

The new season had brought with it a new coach, management structure, club logo and even a brand new playing surface at Camberwell.

In an innovative move, Geoff Speed ('59) and Tim Shearer ('85) are sharing the role of President and helping the club to meet the challenge of fielding four teams in a very competitive environment. Geoff has long been a club stalwart while Tim has joined the club after a successful career as an AFL umpire. Tim has assumed responsibility for the Football Department (Carl Krechman), Marketing (John Beaurepaire) and Fund Raising (Zofia Ross). Geoff oversees Ground Management (John Montgomery), Football Operations (Rick Western) and Club Administration (Finance - John Glover, Secretary - Ian McMurtrie). But their first task was to find a new coach to replace Wayne Harmes.

Bill Pearson and Hec Ingram 'Our new coach Brendan Mason has impressive coaching credentials and comes to Old Scotch from VFL club Box Hill', Geoff Speed told players and supporters at a function to launch the new season. And Brendan wasted no time in organising pre-season training which included a weekend camp at Cowes. His theme for the year is 'Building a Reputation' and this is something the club wants to achieve both on and off the field.

The club has very clear goals - on-field to win an A Section Premiership and off-field to raise $100,000 over three years to help refurbish the clubrooms at Camberwell and secure a long-term agreement tenancy agreement. And there are some exciting plans to achieve these goals...

On Saturday 5 August the club will hold its 80th Anniversary Dinner-Auction Night at the new Colonial Stadium. Hawthorn legend, John Kennedy Snr, will be guest speaker and relive memories of Hawthorn's first premiership in 1961. The team included John Winneke, Ian Law, Colin Youren and Malcolm Hill who will be honoured at the function. And to cap off a great night, the 'OS Team of the 20th Century' to be announced.

All past players and friends of the club are encouraged to attend this special night and bookings can be made through Zofia Ross.

A Special Effort will be drawn at the function with $10,000 as the prize. There are only 300 tickets available in the draw at $100 each. For further details contact Ronda Joyce 9509 or 0411 141241.
