What they are doing now ...Australia Day Honours were awarded to the following Old Boys:The Reverend Alexander (Alec) M. Hilliard ('41) was awarded an OAM. Matriculating in 1941, Alec joined the staff of the Australian Wheat Board, but the end of 1942 found him in the Royal Australian Navy for war service. A member of the crew of the Australian Corvette, 'Junee', Alec served in the South-West Pacific area - New Guinea, Darwin and Borneo. On discharge in 1946 Alec commenced studies in Arts and Theology in Ormond College. Ordained in 1953, Alec carried out ministries in Warburton, Castlemaine, Geelong and Portarlington. His activities included Work Camps in Alice Springs, Vanuatu and Fiji and Migrant Chaplaincies from the UK in the sixties and seventies. He is also active in Rotary (Paul Harris Fellow) and (Rotary Foundation award 1970) and Probus. The citation was 'For service to veterans through the RAN Corvettes Association, to the Uniting Church in Australia, and to the community. John R. McFerran ('56) received an OAM in recognition of service to the television industry, particularly through the establishment of teletext services in Australia, and to the community. Dr David E. Price ('57) received an OAM in recognition of service to the community of Mornington, particularly through the Uniting Church in Australia and groups promoting social justice and local issues, and to the International Medical Mission. J.W.F. (Bill) Thomson ('41) received an AM in recognition of service to the welfare of children and youth in Victoria, particularly through Anglicare and Opportunity Youth Services. Yianni Agisilaou ('95) is a member of a comedy group called 'The Improbables', who perform improvised comedy. They are currently preparing for their second show in the Melbourne International Comedy Festival. Their show last year, entitled 'Improzac, Channel Surfer' was one of the most successful debut shows in the entire festival. Yianni has also started performing Stand up Comedy, and will be participating in this year's JJJ Raw Comedy Competition. This year's Improbables' show is entitled 'Out of Time' and is being performed at Victorian Trades Hall during April. Andrew Dixon ('99) has been awarded a Sir John Monash Scholarship to study medicine at Monash. KL Old Boys Tops in AsiaLeigh McGregor has just completed a tour of Asia catching up with Old Boys and other members of the Scotch Family. By far the best attended function by Old Boys was the Cocktail Party held in Kuala Lumpur at the Hilton Hotel. Leading the charge was architect Peter Clarke ('59) and he was ably supported by United Nations Rep Andrew Robertson ('68 ). Alan Rajendram ('73) had flown in from Penang and apologised for brother Brian ('78) who was overseas. Younger members Kevin Lim ('93) was looking after school mate Kenrick Hsu ('93) who was down from Hong Kong. Another present was Barry Ashton, father of former school cricket captain Robbie ('97). The function was organised by Moh Ling Chan, mother of Ian in Year 9 and Ryan ('99) now in First year Med at Melbourne University. Philip Hilliard ('67) welcomed Ken Koh ('91) and Mathew Chow ('91) to a solid group in Hong Kong. In Bangkok Trevor "Butch" Lemke ('57) welcomed Ian Pascoe ('83) at a small gathering. Dick Morton ('62) was an apology. He was in Singapore for the opening of the new Racecourse. He is a vet, north of Bangkok. While Deep Sethi ('99) was in great form as he welcomed home brother Sarang ('99) who had travelled all the way from the Himalayas to be at the function. Singapore Old Boys were rounded up by local medico, guru E.P. Wong ('65). Well to the fore were "P.T. Hicks ('92) and Simon Footit ('81). Leigh subsequently caught up with Bryan Wong ('97) who was part way through his 2 years National Service. Director of Admissions, Chris Commons, made a Power Point presentation to bring everyone up to date with all of the achievements of the Class of '99. Ted Holmes ('39) has recently published a book of Poems and Prose titled Grief - and Joy - Abounding; Pages in a Progression, Volume 1: Grief - and Joy. His writing post-dates the deaths of his youngest daughter Gill in April 1997 and his wife Audrey some twelve weeks later. Described as 'compelling reading' and 'a moving account of a journey through grief and loss towards the certainty that death is... but the beginning of new life'.
