Scotch College

New Heads of Upper and Middle School appointed

In 1999 Scotch College decided to create two new senior positions.

In response to the perceived need to continue to improve the quality of education at the school and also in response to a recognition that Heads of Year have been required to respond to the increasing demands on their time and resources, the Principal has appointed Mr Paul Runting as Head of the Middle School and Mr Ken Wheat as Head of the Upper School.

Paul Runting and Ken Wheat

Mr Runting came to Scotch in 1996 and has more recently been the Head of Year 7 in 1999. Mr Wheat began at Scotch in 1991 and has been alternating as Head of Years 11 and 12 since the beginning of 1997. Both Mr Runting and Mr Wheat are members of the English Faculty and have considerable experience both at Scotch and elsewhere.

Already Messieurs Runting and Wheat have begun to work with staff, students and parents at a variety of levels within the school. Initially, Parent Information Evenings have been hosted by the new Heads of Sub-schools. Curriculum documentation is being upgraded, current and proposed programs are being assessed and plans for future curriculum and pastoral initiatives are being examined.

While the roles of Tutors and Heads of Year, class teachers and Heads of Department, sports coaches and Teachers-in-Charge of Sports have not changed, every student, teacher and parent should feel confident that their needs and the future of Scotch College are being addressed at a significant level within the school.
