The announcement by Dr Donaldson that he had appointed Tom Cade as the School Captain for 2000 was greeted with great enthusiasm. Vice Captain of the School last year, he has already ably demonstrated his leadership.
Tom came to Scotch in 1992 via grade 5 in the Junior School. In his years in the Senior School, Tom has accumulated many distinctions: he has been dux of Year 10, was placed second in Year 11, and last year gained an ENTER score of 99.80; he achieved his A.Mus.A in 1996 and has played with the symphonic wind and in the Pipes and Drums.
Tom is an outstanding athlete and currently holds a number Scotch records, and ten records competing for Old Scotch. In 1999 he was Captain of the very successful Scotch athletics team, leading by example in winning the open hurdles and 400m events.
In the first week of this school year, Tom addressed the Year 7 boys on their orientation morning, and spoke at the school assembly when the school prefects were installed.
Tom has challenged every boy to take full advantage of the opportunities that were open to them. Tom is a very relaxed and approachable leader.
The School Vice Captain is Robert Commons. Robert was Dux of Year 10 in 1998 and last year was placed second in Year 11. As well as being academically very strong, he displays his talents in a wide variety of other pursuits. He has been a member of the APS premiership swimming team and has also represented the school in the senior athletics squad since Year 7. Robert has gained progressive promotion in the cadet unit and this year has been promoted to CUO commanding B Company. In a remarkably busy schedule, he has also been able to accept the position as Captain of Debating this year, and will also continue to play the oboe in the orchestra and symphonic wind.
