The Scotch Family and Melbourne Grammar Old Boys have joined forces to commission a sculpture which will commemorate the first game of Australian Rules Football played between Scotch College and Melbourne Grammar at 12 midday, on August 7, 1858, on the site of the MCG.
This larger than lifesize sculpture depicts a passage of play where two boys of the period are having a dramatic struggle for the ball and the game is being umpired by Tom Wills, who was the architect of the game and who made a major contribution to the drafting of the initial set of rules.
The sculpture will be located at the MCG and will be unveiled on 3 August, following the Scotch v. Grammar football match. Mr Louis Laumen, well known Melbourne sculptor, has been commissioned to create the piece, which has been under construction since late last year.
To assist with the design, a group of Scotch boys were involved in filming a video, which was used to determine the correct body movement for the three figures. Two Year 10 art students, Doug Lyons and Will Jonas, attended Mr Laumen's studio after school hours to model for him, while he created the marquette for the final work.
This was a great experience for the lads concerned, and they can proudly say, that they played a part in the production of what will be one of Melbourne's future icons.

The Year 12 Art Class taught by Mr Mark Mason, finished the year on a high, with extensive and diverse folios. Many of the students scored very well in the end of year exam. Adrian Chan received an A+ on his written exam and top scored with a TER of 45.
Three students were shortlisted for the National Gallery of Victoria's Top Arts Exhibition. This show is a display of Year 12 work, selected from all over Victoria, with as many as 2,000 folios being submitted.
William Blandford Year 12, has been notified that his landscape painting has been selected for the exhibition, to be held at the National Gallery of Victoria in May. An excellent opportunity and achievement for him.
The students' whose work was short listed, were Charlie Love (photography), and Andrew Scott (ceramics folio).
This is the third year in succession that Scotch has had work represented in the exhibition.

Members of the Year 11 Art class working on a draft for a water colour painting from the edge of the Yarra River boat ramp at Scotch. The class is developing the technical knowledge and level of skill required to control this difficult media.
Already they are making great progress in achieving this goal, as their enthusiasm and dedication bring the reward that they deserve.
