Old Boy Pipes and Drums

In late July 2000 the Pipes and Drums of the 5th/6th Battalion Royal Victoria Regiment, led by Pipe Major Alistair Cox ('71), travelled to Edinburgh to represent the Australian Defence Force at the Golden Jubilee of the Ediburgh Military Tattoo, and Scotland's Royal Tribute to the Queen Mother's 100th Birthday.

Alistair Cox, Robert Adams and Andrew Adams The RVR Pipes and Drums together with bands from other Commonwealth countries and British Regiments, including the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards, Scots Guards, Royal Scots, Royal Highland Fusiliers, Black Watch Highlanders, Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders and Royal Ghurka Rifles, formed the largest massed Pipe Band ever to perform at the Edinburgh Military Tattoo.

Among other highlights for band members was being one of the lead bands in the 10,000 Pipers March through Edinburgh and attending the World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow.

A reception was held at the Gordon Highlanders Regimental Museum for the band in recognition of the historic affiliation between the Gordons and the Royal Victoria Regiment (the Scotch College Cadet Unit through its affiliation wears the Gordon Tartan).

Many Old Boys have served with the Pipes and Drums of RVR, which is based in Hawthorn.

P/M Alistair Cox, Andrew Adams ('86) and Robert Adams ('76), were proud to continue the tradition in Edinburgh.
