Now that the official launch is over, and numbers of OSCAnet registrations are building steadily, the OSCAnet office is looking to push ahead with the Mentoring Program. Within days of the site going live, we have already had several applications for the program from Old Boys wanting to make use of the 'Network' in obtaining career advice. The program has been devised for you.
The program is a free service (at least until the end of 2003) for Old Boys who find themselves in any of the following situations:
or many more.
If you think you might benefit from this free service, then please go to the site, log on and look for the Mentoring Program under the Careers tab on the left of the screen.
Register an interest by completing the prompted form, and we will put you in touch with appropriate help. Remember, this service is free until 2004 and has a commercial value of over $1500. To access the program, you must be a registered OSCAnet user (details about registration are on the site, and elsewhere in this edition of Great Scot).

OSCAnet's Mentoring Program is developing rapidly and we need experienced people across many fields at different levels who are willing to act as Mentors. Mentors volunteer some of their time, drawing on their experience and expertise to provide advice and guidance to others in helping them make decisions concerning their careers. Industries we are focusing on initially are those that the majority of Old Boys work in. These include:
If you have career experience that could be valuable to others, and you are happy to volunteer a little of your time, then please contact Rowan Crosbie-Goold (Alumni Network Manager) at the OSCA office on 9810 4302.
Since the launch at the end of October, OSCAnet has proved to be well received by the Old Boy community. The OSCAnet office has been inundated with emails and phone calls from Old Boys all over the world who have been eager to be registered and use the site.
Mark and Rowan (and a small group of helpers) have been busy registering members. "Anyone can access the site, says Rowan. 'However, to gain access to the really exciting areas, only Old Boys can register to obtain their username and password.
"The response has been fantastic. Old boys of all ages are showing an interest, and while we expect different age groups will be interested in different functions, the Market Research is paying off. It's very early days, but there seems to be something there for everyone. One of the most satisfying observations to me is that Old Boys that have been traditionally disengaged by OSCA are contacting us to register. Many of them ring and we enjoy a good 'chin wag' and catch up."
If you haven't been in touch with the School and OSCA for some time, go to the site and check it out, or ring Rowan at OSCA just to have a chat (9810 4302).
In case you have missed all of the literature, OSCAnet is found at www.oscanet.com.au
