At the Scotch at Cowes Annual General Meeting on the 29 July 2002 a presentation was made to Brian Woolacott by Geoff Shields, President of the Parent Auxiliary, in recognition of his long and devoted support of Scotch at Cowes and to thank him on behalf of many Parents Auxiliaries and Student Committees.
Brian's association with Scotch at Cowes commenced in 1980. From then, until 1989, he attended the camps as a member of staff. In 1990 he was appointed Master-In-Charge and continued in this role until 2001.
During his association with the camp there was continued development of the amenities.
The new mess hut was constructed. Renovations to all the buildings were made and the equipment has been upgraded and improved.
Previous parent committees undertook working bees to do repairs and maintenance tasks. Brian was very good at organising these. All the necessary tools and equipment were always available and the tasks were well planned. Brian often cooked a very tasty roast meal on the occasions when parents and students stayed overnight.
Brian participated in defining and implementing many changes to the way in which the student committees have been appointed and in how the Senior and Junior camps have been conducted.
These changes have maintained a strong student interest in attending camps and the leadership roles of the student committees.
Brian was presented with a painting of a Cowes scene painted by fellow staff member Mr Julian Collins.
In response Brian said that he enjoyed all of his involvement with Scotch at Cowes and that he was most rewarded by the many lasting friendships and associations which he saw develop between the boys while they were enjoying Scotch at Cowes.
