Old Scotch boys make waves

Old Scotch boys have always enjoyed getting out and making waves, and two Old Collegians are doing just this - literally - as volunteers on Camp Cooinda. You will find them in canoes and on sail boats each summer as they enjoy leading young people on this adventure camp.

Camp Cooinda is an independent non-profit organisation that is run entirely by volunteers. The camps offer a special mix of boating activities and relaxed outdoor living for young people aged between 12 and 19.

Over the years, many Scotch students and Old Collegians have participated as both campers and leaders in the program. The fact that so many are still actively involved is a testament to Scotch boys' love of adventure and fun, as well as their willingness to volunteer their time to work with young people.

Two of the Old Collegians who currently volunteer as leaders on the camps are Andrew Catford ('89) and George Tidd ('89). They say that some of the highlights of Cooinda are meeting fantastic people from all different walks of life, enjoying tent living, great beaches, camp fire cooking, night fishing and overnight expeditions around the Gippsland Lakes, including Cooinda's own island!

At Cooinda all activities are undertaken in small groups (usually 4-5 girls and 4-5 boys with a female and a male leader).

Each group plans where they want to take the boats and camp overnight around the Lakes.
