Melting Moments with COFFEE Canon

Scotch College Junior School Years Three and Four Choirs' Student and Parent Choral Afternoon - Thursday, 28th August 2003.

At least one swimming lesson was cancelled and a number of one-off arrangements put in place. Would the basses drown out the boy sopranos? Would the Dads outnumber the Mums? More importantly, would there be enough afternoon tea?

Responding to an invitation to eat, sing and have some fun, parents and siblings of boys in the Years 3 and 4 Choir recently gathered after school to experience a mixed-voice choral rehearsal. Head Chef, Jenni Allen, chose to follow the Melting Moments with an entr of vocal warm-ups and some recipes for good intonation, featuring some of the hand signs used in our Kodly-based music program. The afternoon menu also included the unaccompanied singing of the three-part C-O-F-F-E-E canon and a two-part arrangement of Do-re-mi from 'The Sound of Music'(which started at the very beginning).

Some delightful images captured by camerawoman Chris Carney showed many happy families engaged together in their music making. So successful was this innovation, that Jennie has received several requests for follow-up performances. Parents are on notice to keep practising!
