September Luncheon

Guest Speaker Colin McDonald ('46) Leonard Allen Jim McCoy
Cricket reminiscences and school day memories were the order of the day at the 1933 and 1943 Reunion Luncheon. Setting the atmosphere was Colin McDonald ('46) telling of his many battles with the West Indian cricketers of his era. He mentioned the great speed that led to the bruises inflicted by the Reverend Wes Hall, in his opinion the fastest bowler ever. Unfortunately Colin had to leave early to attend the funeral of his great friend George Thomas. Before leaving he made fascinating reference to the considerable increase of 'sledging', something that was not present in his days as a Test player. He deplored the implied intimidation of these tactics and related with much humour some incidents on the field in an era that seems to have past.

A very impromptu series of memories flowed of Scotch in the 1930s and 1940s when, at random, Old Boys enlightened the Luncheon of their time at the School.

David Wells told of his time as a Boarder at 'Leighwood' mentioning names of Miss Bews and Mrs Edwards, he recalled the cold showers, the Floods and the death of Dr. Littlejohn. Tom Hogg reminded us of the time during the War that Wesley shared the School. Len Allen spoke of 'Tort' Jamieson, Colin Gilray and the Aths, 'Standards', while Lindsay Tallent relived the moments of sport on the Main.

It was a very relaxed function enjoyed by several Boarders of the eras, some of whom attended from afar. Gordon Kilpatrick, Bill Dulfer and Alf Miller, with Len Allen, swapped yarns of Boarding House meals and happenings on the 'Hill”.
