Sipping in the Rain

A rather sodden Ian Hansen
A rather sodden Ian Hansen makes
his way from winery to winery
For once the rain gods didn't smile on the Old Scotch bushwalkers. On our annual "winery walk" in October, it rained while we walked from wine tasting to wine tasting—then, too late, the sun emerged while we were inside enjoying our gourmet lunch. Bushwalking can be tough!

Forty-seven walkers arrived at Goona Warra Vineyard in Sunbury as the rain poured down. We set off for the 3km walk to the winery's Victoria University production facility, to try cab merlot, shiraz, semillon sauvignon blanc and a chardonnay.

A 4km walk in the persistent drizzle then took us to Craiglee Winery, and a taste of their sauvignon blanc, chardonnay, shiraz, cab sav and sparkling red.

Back at Goona Warra, a magnificent meal of antipasto and roast chicken or lamb awaited us. The sun beamed through the windows, teasing us as we dried out after the rather sodden walk. It was, however, a great day, well organised by Sue and Graham Stanley.
