With the installation of W. Bro. Stuart McArthur ('89) as Master of the Old Scotch Masonic Lodge No. 396, into the Chair of King Solomon on 6th November, the Lodge commences another busy and exciting year. Stuart is one of the youngest Masters of the Lodge in its nearly 80-year history, and plans to present the Lodge with some exciting new challenges to its function, operation, and future planning. An important part of this process will be the on-going welcoming of new Freemasons into the Lodge.
The Lodge has had a busy few months since the introduction of Bro. Don Badenach ('48) in September, with the final night of Immediate Past Master, Graeme Weber ('64) in October with a Full-Close ceremony; the Installation ceremony in November carried out by a special Òunder 40'sÓ Grand Lodge team; and the introduction into Freemasonry of Richard Tait ('76) at our December meeting, together with a visit from our own Father Christmas who collected our toys for under-privileged children.
There have also been a number of social activities. In September about 90 Members, families, and friends attended our annual Charity Film Night at Scotch and raised about $900 for the Freemasons Aged Care Homes. In October a party braved the cold and inclement weather and took the Tramboat Cruise to Williamstown for an enjoyable dinner organised by Peter Turnley ('57). In late November the annual end-of-year Christmas Dinner in the Boykett Room at Scotch was a great night of fun and fellowship.
The Lodge meets at the Camberwell Masonic Centre on the first Thursday each month (except January). All Freemasons are welcome. Old Boys interested in the Old Scotch Lodge or Freemasonry in general, should contact the Secretary, Bill Cameron, C/- OSCA Office.
