Sir Douglas Little attended Scotch from 1918 to 1922. He died in 1990, one of the school's most distinguished Old Boys, and a great Victorian.
Sir Ninian Stephen ('40) observed, in an obituary published in Great Scot in 1991, 'Victoria knew Douglas Macfarlan Little as a distinguished lawyer, his brilliant career at the bar being followed by many years of great service to the community on the bench of the Supreme Court of this state ... Doug Little was, both at the bar and on the bench, a man fulfilled, his working life devoted to his beloved profession of the law and his days filled with quiet satisfaction in the doing of what he did so well.'
His long community service will be perpetuated through a gift, which has established 'The Douglas M Little Scholarship'. The scholarship, which will provide a sum of $10000 per year towards tuition costs, will assist a student from rural Victoria entering Year 10, on the understanding that he would be unable to attend Scotch College without such assistance, and that, on assessment, it is determined that he would benefit from a Scotch College education. The school and the Scotch College Foundation is delighted and most grateful that the very generous donor has seen fit to provide something of benefit for future generations of country Victorians, and which simultaneously helps us remember a great man.
