Drew Ginn endorses the Annual Giving Programme

Drew Ginn

Drew Ginn ('92) recently gave OSCA President Rob Logie-Smith an enthusiastic endorsement of this year's Old Boys' Annual Giving Programme, which is heavily focussed on the refurbishment of the Memorial Hall.

Drew took up rowing at the suggestion of former staff members, Laurie Malcolm, and Paul McGann, late in his time at Scotch.

He rowed in the seven seat in the winning Head of the River Crew in 1992. He then went on to represent Victoria in 1993 and Australia in 1994, 1995 and 1996. He then replaced Andrew Cooper in the Oarsome Foursome, which won the gold medal at the Atlanta Olympics.

In his endorsement, Drew said:

'I have been asked by the OSCA Council to endorse this year's Annual Giving Programme, and I am very happy to do so. In the 150th anniversary of Scotch College, it is a great time to think about what the College meant for you and what its future may be.

We probably all accept now that we were privileged to receive a Scotch College education, but in truth, I never thought about it at the time, I simply assumed it 'was there' and that the facilities I used had always been there.

It is only after you leave Scotch that you realise the value of the experience, the learning,

the challenge, the development of your own individuality and in my own case, and many others, the real value of teamwork. One way or the other, we have all been shaped by our time at Scotch.

On reflection, of course, the 'Scotch College experience' has evolved over one hundred and fifty years, through the efforts of inspired leadership, dedicated staff and generations of Old Boys and parents. Not only have they quite literally built the School, they have also built the culture.

The Annual Giving Programme is about providing for the next generation of Scotch Collegians and this year the Programme is dedicated to the restoration of the Memorial Hall, which desperately needs our support. There are a number of options for your donation, many of which are tax deductible. You will have received a note from a member of your year group, and you can contribute by returning the attached form.

It is a sad fact that only about 14% of Old Boys donated last year - if you were one of them, thank you, if you did not contribute, now is a great time to start, before the end of the tax year.'
