In late March the Year Five classes went to Camp Kangaroobie, which is a campsite on a working farm near Princetown.
The boys participated in a variety of activities such as archery, canoeing, ropes course, an environmental game, hut construction and farm activities. At night times they participated in spotlighting activities, a drama performance night and a games evening.
Each boy also had the opportunity to sleep under canvas and they all enjoyed sleeping in the tents.
It was exciting visiting the farm during March as the boys were able to hold three day old piglets and also witness ear tags being placed on newborn calves. They fed hay to cows and fed Grunter, who is a very large pig.
During the year, 5Y have a buddy system with Prep Red. Once a cycle the two classes get together and do a range of activities such as reading books, writing stories, playing board games, making Easter baskets and having fun.
The boys in Year 5 look forward to their time spent with their buddy and are quite amazed that they were like the Prep Red boys only a few years ago. They are very good role models for their younger buddies and try to steer them in the correct path of being a good Scotch boy!
