The Book Fair was held over three days in May in the Resource Centre. Boys and their parents took the opportunity to peruse and purchase books of their choice for home libraries. CD Roms were also popular.
Clifford the dog was a popular attraction, especially with the younger boys. He had a number of eager aliases vying to portray him.
We were delighted to find that over $12,500 had been spent on purchases, especially as we were only open before and after school! This will enable us to choose many new books and also buy new equipment.
We are most fortunate that we have a culture of reading in the Junior School.
With the assistance of Penguin Publishers Doug MacLeod visited the Junior School in May to launch a new edition of his very funny poetry book, 'Sister Madge's Book of Nuns'. Year 4 boys were privy to this ceremony and also enjoyed a selection of readings from the book. A number of new poems had the boys in stitches and some purchased a personally signed copy.
Year 6 boys walked to the Hawthorn Town Hall to view a performance of Myths and Monsters - The Story of Odysseus' by Andreas Litkas. This one-man show was stunning and incorporated storytelling, mime, mask and puppetry. Boys were involved in the performance and rated it as 'great'.
