The 38th Camberwell Showtime is a show written, created and performed by the Scouts and Guides of Boroondara. This year, the largest Scout and Guide Show in Australia has moved to the city, at the Athenaeum Theatre.
The 2002 Camberwell Showtime is titled 'Absolutely Nothing', and is a story about issues that have occurred during 2001, such as the refugee issue, the Federal election, September 11, and the globalisation debate.
Camberwell Showtime delivers a fun and exhilarating adventure, which the whole family can enjoy.
Each year the show is written from scratch, and this year eighty young people got together, over two writing weekends, to produce 'Absolutely Nothing'.
With an average age of fourteen years, Scotch College has the largest contingent of students from the sixty plus schools involved.
Many are in lead roles in the cast and hold key positions within the Production, Drama, Management and Technical teams.
The move to the Athenaeum is a huge undertaking for the Scout/Guide movement, giving the cast and crew an opportunity to perform in such a prestigious theatre, in the heart of Melbourne's theatre district. With an anticipated audience of eight thousand, spread over nine performances, Camberwell Showtime is amongst the largest amateur theatre groups in Australia.
The show is highly contemporary, with a rock band on stage. It is a family show to be enjoyed by all ages.
As a Scotch Year 11 Drama student, and former 1st Hawthorn Scotch College Scout, I particularly enjoy my role within the Drama team, assisting with auditions, casting and teaching the cast to grow in confidence and believe in their own abilities.
I am in my fourth year in Camberwell Showtime, and particularly look forward to the challenge of working in the Athenaeum Theatre, while at the same time wishing all Scotch students and 1st Hawthorn Scouts and Venturers involved with Camberwell Showtime 2002 a wonderful season at the Athenaeum.
