With a week to go, the weather forecast was good, but as the day approached we realised we would have to combat a wet Anzac Day Parade. Despite the rain, the march continued as usual with good crowds of supporters lining the route down Swanston Street to the Shrine.
The Military Band, armed with plastic clarinets to suit the weather conditions and resplendent in their scarlet uniform, performed at an excellent standard. The dress, marching and musicianship was consistently good from all the bandsmen, including some Year 8 and 9 cadets who had only learnt how to march a couple of months earlier. This year the band played 'Aldergate' and, by popular demand, 'Promotion'.
After forty minutes of intense marching, halting and marking time - all whilst playing, the band arrived at the Shrine, rather damp and exhausted but proud of their achievement at being part of such an important event.
