Tim Shearer left Scotch College in 1985 and completed a Business Degree at Swinburne Institute of Technology, majoring in Marketing and Economics.
He was recruited into the Unilever Graduate program where he progressed to the role of National Account Manager. Unilever is one of the world's largest suppliers of Fast Moving Consumer Goods and includes brands such as Omo, Drive, Rexona, and Sunsilk.
After eleven years of service he assumed the position of National Business Manager at Coca Cola Amatil, a role that involved a lot of interstate and international travel developing trading partnerships.
In late 2001, Tim joined Carter Holt Harvey (Sorbent, Deeko, Handee brands), as Trade Marketing Manager, where he was responsible for developing and implementing strategies with major trading partners such as Coles and Woolworths.
After completing a successful career as an AFL field umpire in 1998 (a career that interestingly commenced at the school in the early 1980's), Tim joined Geoff Speed as Joint President of the Old Scotch Collegians' Football Club. This unique leadership structure reflected the demands of running a modern day A Grade Club.
Tim was instrumental in developing a strategic plan for the Club and has developed the sponsorship portfolio extensively. He also organised fund raising events on a scale that assisted the Club meet its annual financial obligations ($100,000).
It is pleasing to report that the Club is in a very healthy position both on and off the field presently, but is always searching for volunteers to assist. Tim will obviously be relinquishing his position at the Football Club at the conclusion of the 2002 season and the search is on to find new people who are keen to get involved in a hands-on manner. (please contact Geoff Speed on 9889 5658 if you are interested).
In past summers Tim had a long cricket career with the Camberwell Cricket Club (now Camberwell Magpies Cricket Club) where he captained teams on the field and served on the committee in an off the field capacity.
Tim was awarded Life Membership of The Camberwell Magpies Cricket Club in 1998 and hopes to assist in the coaching of cricket at the school in his new role.
With ex-Geelong Grammar cousin Charles Sutherland, Tim established the Tunbridge-Cowper Cup in 1994 which is an annual cricket match played between Old Boys of Scotch and GGS who are currently playing Club cricket in the various competitions around Victoria. Tim is currently studying his Graduate Diploma of Education at Monash University. (Of course Tim's father Ben taught at the school from 1980 to 1994). In between all of this he somehow manages to spend time with his wife Christine and two young children (Nicholas and Amanda).
Tim has a strong awareness and appreciation of the wide scope of the Old Scotch Collegians' Association and the need to continue its development. 'The vibrancy and involvement of the Old Boys network is fundamental to the success of the school and I will continue to adopt the inclusive approach that has worked so well in the past'.
He see's the implementation of OSCAnet as one of his first challenges: 'at this stage people are unaware of the exciting scope of this initiative. It will be an ever evolving vehicle for Old Boys to keep in touch with the school, with each other and with current students. It will be a forerunner in user-friendly communication and information technology in the education world and my role is to ensure that people enjoy using it on an ongoing basis'.
A very warm welcome to Tim from all Old Boys.
