Footy Club needs to go in 2002The Old Scotch Football Club finds itself in a familiar position at the half way mark of the 2002 VAFA A section season. Six wins and a draw sees us in third position on the ladder and there are many encouraging signs to suggest we will go on with the job this year. However, we must be mindful of the fact that we have been in the four at the halfway point of the last two seasons only to fall away in disappointing fashion. This year things hopefully will be different. Dale Tapping has instilled a 'never say die' attitude in the guys and we have won 3 games from seemingly impossible positions. We came back from fifty nine points down to tie with Old Xavier, we clawed back from six goals down to overrun the reigning premiers Marcellin and who will ever forget the classic Old Trinity contest where we kicked six goals in the last eight minutes to register one of the greatest wins in the Club's history. Steve Hume was the hero - bombing a torpedo through from fifty metres after the final siren to put us in front for the only time all day! The Reserves are struggling in terms of on-field results but John Atta and Simon Tallent are doing a terrific job developing the younger players at the club. Tangible evidence of this can be seen with Charles Tallent, Duncan Knight, Rob Josephs, Michael Watts, Tim Hosking, Adam Routledge and David Jennings all making valuable contributions in the 1st XVIII this season. The Under 19's are performing inconsistently but are capable of beating anyone on their day. Scott Cations, Will Lewis and Andrew Philalay are some of many who are developing quickly and will effectively step up to senior football in the not too distant future. The Club is also proud of Josh Kitchen who played senior representative football over the Queen's Birthday weekend. Congratulations also go to David Jennings who was selected in the state Under 19 team. Off the field things continue to run effectively, but with Tim Shearer being forced to relinquish his position at the conclusion of this season to take up his role as Executive Director of OSCA, we need to identify a new structure to manage the club. The club desperately needs people to step up and assist in a hands-on manner. Management of the club is one issue that will be addressed at an Old Scotch Football Club Forum which will be held in the Camberwell Sportsground Clubrooms on Sunday 11 August from 10.00 to 2.00pm. Lunch will be provided. Other issues for discussion include the Boroondara Cardinals Under 17 team and the 3rd XVIII's future. If you would like to attend please contact Tim Shearer on 9810 4302 (B). We would welcome the support of past players both at this forum and in support roles for 2003.
