On Wednesday 30 April, all of Year 9 Strathcona - Tay Cregan, spent the afternoon with 90 of our Year 9 boys. The purpose of the afternoon was to reflect on the idea of Goals and Dreams.
Mr Runting - Head of Middle School, Mr Cavalin - Scotch Social Education, Mrs Etheridge - Head of Tay Cregan and four students from each school, developed the program. The afternoon was opened by presentations from the School captains from Scotch, Michael Starke, and Strathcona, Erin McHugh who spoke on their own dreams and goals. The guest speaker was Tania Doko who is the lead singer of a band called Batchelor Girl. She spoke of he own journey to be a successful singer, but also spoke of her work with underprivileged children and teenagers in remand centres. She had some wonderful stories and advice for the students.
The students then moved from the Science Lecture Theatre to the Cardinal Pavilion where they worked in groups on activities related to identifying and sharing their own dreams and goals.
The afternoon was well received by the students and it was felt that it was a valuable afternoon. We look forward to undertaking this again next year.
