Given the enormous success of the inaugural Scotch Literature Festival in 2001, the event returns this year with the promise of even more excitement.Continuing the vision of inspiring all Scotch boys to be enthusiastic and able readers, the Festival this year will again transform the School for a week into a world of books, readers and writers.
From 11th to the 15th of August, Scotch will play host to a menagerie of Australia's pre-eminent writers, speakers, journalists, storytellers, illustrators, artists and publishers.
Some of this year's special guests include the enormously popular authors, Matthew Reilly, John Marsden, Isobelle Carmody, Gary Crew, Andrew Daddo and Markus Zusak.
Designed to provide something for boys of all ages and tastes, there will be daily workshops, seminars, book signings, forums and performances throughout the School. In addition to the general events, each year level will have a special day dedicated specifically for them. Arriving in casual clothes, the boys will spend the entire day immersed in the wonders of words through a series of targeted forums and elective workshops.
However, the highlights for many within the broader Scotch community will be the two major public events:
On Thursday 14th August from 6.00 - 7.30pm there will be a special forum discussion with Red Symons and Jane Clifton who will be tackling the topic "Is Reading Infectious". On Friday 15th August from 5.30-7.30pm there is also the Booktastings extravaganza (see advert for both in centre pages).
These events are open to the public but a special invitation is extended to all past and present parents, staff and Old Boys. Further details can be found in the attached advertisements in this edition of the Great Scot. Further enquiries and bookings can be made by contacting the School on 9810 4321. So, all this awaits and, no doubt, at the end of this week, we and the boys will proclaim along with poets
"I have good reason to be content, for thank God I can read!" (Keats)
