Painting the picture in the Junior School

"Life is a great big canvas, and you should throw all the paint on it you can."

Danny Kaye

Can you imagine what this canvas would look like, if every boy in our Junior School threw a handful of paint onto a blank canvas each time he tried something new? What a vision this creates in my mind!

The diversity of programs on offer in our Junior School provides opportunities for boys with a range of interests and abilities to shine as they may never have shone before.

One such opportunity was presented last term when nearly 50 boys presented the 2004 Junior School Play, BILGE.

With tremendous support from staff, parents and friends of the College, BILGE was a wonderful opportunity for boys who may receive little acclamation in other curriculum areas to be showcased and applauded for their obvious talents and abilities. Directed by our new teacher of Drama, Mrs Jane Beams, BILGE involved extensive rehearsals and commitment by both staff and students and I commend all involved for what was a stunning production.

Robotics is another area of relatively new interest for boys in the Upper Primary and Year Six Coordinator, Jocelyn Pride has been instrumental in the implementation of this exciting program. The National Excellence in Teaching Awards (NEiTA) committee has also recognised Jocelyn's efforts in this area. On Friday 14 May, Jocelyn attended a special ceremony where she received one of only a few awards presented to teachers in Victorian primary schools. Jocelyn is now in contention for a National Award. Congratulations, Jocelyn!

The following articles provide a brief snapshot of the colourful canvases being created in our very busy Junior School.
