Sir Rupert Hamer Award to Ross Campbell

Scotch Bagpipe Tutor Ross Campbell has been awarded the 2004 Sir Rupert Hamer Award for his may years of service to bagpiping. Ross received the award during the Ringwood Highland Gathering on 28 March.

Sir Rupert's recent death added poignancy to this award: Ross's certificate was the last one to be signed by Sir Rupert, who was Chieftan of the Victorian Pipe Band Association for more than 30 years.

The award is a most prestigious one in the world of piping. Awarded annually, it could be called the 'Perelberg Award of piping'. It rewards Ross for his outstanding skills as a piper and his contribution to piping, which have long been recognised nationally in the pipe band community. He came to Scotch as Pipe Master in 1976 and continues to serve the School and the band with great distinction.
