OSCA Antartica Branch Meeting

Antartica

Andrew Buick and Don Beaurepaire at the OSCA Antarctica Branch meeting!

‘Unbelievable’ is about the only meaningful word I can come up with. The effect the place had upon me was quite profound. The sheer size of it all was staggering. I know that there are plenty of other places in the world, some of which I have seen, that are physically as impressive in many ways, but to see an environment which is so much the same all over while at the same time every little bit so different from every other little bit is to realise how utterly insignificant we really are.

The Peregrine team – the Melbourne office, all the overseas staff in Argentina and particularly the shipboard staff and crew – were wonderful. The way the whole trip was run was excellent. I think to find anything to mutter about would be next to impossible. The safety of everyone was obviously paramount, the food was way beyond expectations. I thoroughly enjoyed the zodiac trips and kayaking – the silence of the kayaking was impressive in this environment.
