The Old Scotch Milestone Pavers Project

The Old Scotch Milestones project is one of the most exciting initiatives undertaken by OSCA in its 90 year history. The Scotch College Council has named the new area that divides the Memorial Hall and the new James Forbes Academy "The Old Scotch Square" in recognition of OSCAs significant contribution to the new music and drama facility.

This square is the new formal entrance to the School from Morrison St.

The square is lined with a row of trees that one day will provide a magnificent canopy not unlike the Monash Drive. The main pathway leads to the Main Oval. In the center of the square a formal circle will house a spectacular bronze burning bush sculpture that has been designed and built by Old Boy Jim Derham ('56). This sculpture is the first major visible artwork on the School's campus and is a gift to the School from the classes of 2002 and 2003. These boys will leave an everlasting (and ever burning) legacy to the School in this most prominent position.

To further enhance the area it has been determined that the Old Scotch Square is an appropriate place for past students, past staff and past parents to leave their mark by purchasing a range of pavers. Brick pavers will line the walkways. The Burning Bush sculpture will be surrounded by bluestone pavers. The bluestone pavers are available in two different options - for individuals

(1 plaque per paver) and for families or sports teams (up to 5 plaques per paver). It is important to note that you can recognise those who went before by purchasing pavers for ancestors who had a formal association with Scotch in the past. This initiative will create a walk of great historical interest and provides you with the opportunity to become personally involved in the Scotch landscape.

The first phase of pavers is being offered to past students, past staff and past parents of the School. It is planned to offer the pavers to current parents and current students in 2004. Please see the order form inside the front cover of this edition of Great Scot for more details.
