In January this year four Year 10 Scotch students Andrew Mosley, Ben Healy, Peter Lam and Ajay Raipathi travelled to Singapore to spread the Scotch spirit.
Ben wrote 'We stayed in the Raffles boarding house for four weeks, while participating in many school activities. I was lucky enough to go shooting, play waterpolo and join in with the hockey training. We found their classes much quieter than ours, because they use a different approach to learning.
In those four weeks, we were able to do many things, such as visit an amazing waterslide park, giving us a good insight into the local way of life.
We found the Singaporeans to be very friendly and hospitable, and we were amazed to see the diligent manner in which the students worked.
As a result of us going to Singapore, each of us were able to host a young Rafflesian for three weeks leading up to the June holidays. During this time they participated in two weeks of school at Scotch and then had a week's holiday with their host families.
They had a great time, as we skied the slopes at Mt. Buller, water-skied at Lake Eildon, and tasted country life at the Mosleys' farm.
We also enjoyed a Melbourne tradition when we watched an excellent game of football at the MCG and went for several trips around Victoria, including a tour of Sovereign Hill at Ballarat and watching the penguins on Phillip Island.
This exchange programme gave us a greater understanding of different cultures, and enabled us to travel overseas and experience life and schooling in another country.
