The School hosted its second Valedictory Dinner on Monday 17 October at the Grand Hyatt Savoy Ballroom to celebrate the transition of the Class of 2005. Over 700 Year 12 students and their parents mixed with staff in what was truly a memorable night.
School Chaplain Graham Bradbeer performed the traditional haggis ceremony to the accompaniment of bagpipes played by Ed Butler and Al Watson. Tony Glover and Peter Riley again guarded the haggis as it made its way through the room to the front of the ballroom with Year 12 coordinator Neil Cracknell and School Vice- Captain Ben Mielke.
OSCA President Bob Welch welcomed the Class of 2005 into the Old Boy community. Comedian Mark Mitchell then played the new School Bursar, much to the amusement of many of the parents in the room and Ross Congleton (the ‘real’ Bursar)! He then delivered a wonderful address where he mused about the ‘stock exchange of love’. The Cardinals then performed with great distinction. The toasts to the staff, the students and the parents were all delivered with much warmth and humility. The silent auction raised $5000 to support the Kapumfi Project and the night culminated with students and their mothers dancing the night away with the Old Scotch Showband, which was expertly directed by Ron Anderson.
Many thanks go to all involved with the Showband for supporting this wonderful Scotch event.
Bruce Brown was an outstanding MC and this night is now firmly entrenched as a magnificent Scotch College event. Thanks go to all involved with the night, and, in particular to the Class of 2005 who have made a lasting impression at the School.
