Scotch College

A journey through the Junior School

Guy Mason, Head of Junior School

The students of our Junior School are indeed fortunate to have access to a wide range of programs and opportunities, and I continue to be amazed at all that is offered and accepted along a boy’s journey through his primary education at Scotch.

The same is true for the high quality staff who work with the boys; opportunities for professional and personal development are presented, challenged and accepted. In continuing to encourage the development of leadership skills, the current Deputy Head of Junior School, Mr Rodney McKinlay, has been appointed Assistant Principal – Head of Junior School, at the Plenty Valley Christian College effective from the beginning of 2006.

Established in 1981, Plenty Valley is a P–12 co-educational school of 700 students with 270 in the Junior School. Situated in a large growth corridor, the school is in the initial stages of a building program and is planning for significant growth over the next five years.

Congratulations to Rod on this wonderful achievement and in wishing him, Kerry, Caitlyn and Emily well for the future, the search for a new Deputy Head of Junior School has commenced.

In providing quality staff, Frau Cornelia Kohné- Drube (Languages other than English) and Mr Grant Phillips (Year 4) have both been nominated for prestigious National Excellence in Teaching Awards (NEiTA ). Nominated by members of the parent community, these two fine teachers exemplify the outstanding nature of the professionalism being presented before our boys each day.

Congratulations to Cornelia and Grant on their nominations. I am also delighted to announce that Cornelia is to receive a Community Merit excellence award, recognising her contribution to LOTE and the links formed with a variety of community groups.

Cornelia’s award was presented at a special Assembly during Term Four.
