Generally Speaking it WAS a huge night!!

The 79th OSCA Annual Dinner was held on Friday 28 May at teh Melbourne Park Function Centre. The theme of the night was leadership and who better to have on hand but currrent Chief of Defence, General Peter Cosgrove. The current leader of the School, Dr Gordon Donaldson, was also present with over 650 Old Boys and friends.

The night got off to a dramatic start with Pipes and Drums performing in the middle of the room. The official party was then piped in and Leigh McGregor ('55) delivered a rousing Ode to the Haggis. OSCA President John Craven ('69) talked about the challenges confronting the Old Scotch Collegians' Association and also discussed some of the new initiatives that the Association is pursuing. Professor David Copolov ('68) delivered a thoughtful toast to the School where he particularly highlighted the importance of teachers, both old and new. Current School Captain Ed Tudor kept the audience up to date with all the happenings at the School, including the School's first APS Badminton Championship and the dramatic Head of the River victory. The crew of 1978 was particularly impressed with the video highlights of the race having accomplished a similar result 26 years beforehand.

The Principal, Dr Gordon Donaldson then dispelled some myths about Government funding. Freeway settlements and the 'sexiness' of Old Scotch Collegians! Colonel Paul Symon ('78) presented the Toast to Guests and quickly made the APS kindred societies feel uneasy in their seats as he compared many of their schools to Scotch. Then General Cosgrove delivered an insightful and thoughtful reflection about leadership and its importance reflection about leadership and its importance in the modern day.

Donaldson, Craven and Cosgrove

The night went quickly for everyone and concluded on a high, with Old Boys catching up with each other and meeting anew. Generally it WAS a huge night!
