A sample of what the boys will see at NASA |
When human beings first walked on the moon in 1969, planet Earth became future bound and people of all ages wondered about the possibilities of planetary travel. This September holidays, 38 Scotch students, accompanied by four staff, will have a traveller’s dream come true; an unprecedented opportunity of experiencing first hand an astronaut’s training at a five-day, live-in, NASA Space camp in USA.
The training module is only one exciting stage of a stellar two-week tour, organised by Mrs Grace Cardaci and Mrs Sophie Musci of The Scotch College Astronomy Club. Starting on the west coast, lucky Scotch students will visit Mt Wilson Observatory, followed by engineering and natural wonders, Hoover Dam and Grand Canyon. On the east coast, our boys will visit some of the most famous institutions in USA: Kennedy Space Centre, Smithsonian Institute, and, in tune with history and politics in Washington DC, the White House, Lincoln Memorial, Arlington Cemetery, Congress, George Washington’s plantation and the Australian Embassy. What a wonderful range of educational experiences to stimulate the cultural interests of every Australian! No need to detail some sporting and tourist attractions included in this tour which has it all. Bon voyage!

The Challenge: read 12 books between 6 February and 10 August.
Scotch students in Years 3–9 are already participating with the support and encouragement of their English teachers and library staff.
More details about the Challenge are available from the website www.sofweb.vic.edu.au/vicprc/
