The need for more and better storage! |
This year’s Annual Giving Program, a joint undertaking by the OSCA and the Foundation, follows a new path as the School seeks assistance for three very distinct projects. For the first time, we are asking the parents in the Junior School to offer their support for a specific Junior School project – the provision of seating for boys, parents and visitors around the Junior School Oval. Now that the Oval is being restored after the lengthy building works for the James Forbes Academy, it is most appropriate that proper seating should become part of this show-case venue.
In the Senior School, we are asking parents to help with the provision of proper window furnishings in the Boykett Room of the Cardinal Pavilion. This room is one of the most heavily used in the School by boys, parents and other visitors to the School, and all of us have probably been exposed to the fierce westerly light and sun during summer evening functions. Proper furnishings will make the room much more comfortable and friendly for all users, and will be a significant contribution from the Senior School parents in 2005.
Our appeal to the general Old Boy population of the School is to help preserve the Archive-Museum. While there is continuing discussion about the long-term location and development of the Archive-Museum, there is a huge need at the moment to raise funds for immediate needs. These include preservation of existing artifacts; the provision of a filing system to keep a file for EVERY student since 1851; the conversion to digital recordings of some unique and fragile early speech and music recordings from the early years of Scotch; and the provision of long-term storage containers to help preserve (in acid-free conditions) our priceless heritage. Every proud Old Boy of the School can help to preserve our goodly foundation well into the future through any donation made towards this most worthy of causes.
There remain, of course, other options, to which supporters can make donations within the Annual Giving Program. They are all detailed in the Annual Giving Brochure which is enclosed in this edition of Great Scot.
We do hope that the Scotch Family will rally to the call once again, and make this a truly successful campaign with a strong focus on the future.
