With the 2004 school year coming to a close and the 260 new boys well settled and immersed in the variety of activities that make up life at the School, Great Scot visited the Admissions Office to ask about the procedure to obtain a place at Scotch.
“The demand for places is very strong indeed and seems to be increasing,” said Director of Admissions, Dr Chris Commons. “We encourage parents to book as soon as possible after a boy is born and to pass the word to their friends to do the same. Booking early enhances the chances of being offered a place at the School.
“In fact we already have many applications for the Prep level in 2010 and Year 7 in 2017 for children who are just a few weeks old at the moment. We even have a small number of Year 9 boarding applications for 2019!
“We finalise enrolments more than a year in advance. We are very busy at the moment organising booklists and the subject selections for our new students in 2005 and we are also finalising enrolments for 2006.”
If this demand for places is any indication, the many advantages of a Scotch education – the outstanding teaching, facilities and co-curricular programs – are widely recognised by the community.
There are three main entry levels into the day school: Prep, Year 4 and Year 7. According to Dr Commons, each entry point is almost equally popular. Two classes of 24 students are enrolled at the Prep level and an additional class is added in Year 4. A further 130 new students join the Senior School in Year 7.
For boarders the main entry levels are Year 7 and Year 9, with the largest numbers joining the boarding community at Year 9.
Initial offers of places in the Junior School and at Year 7 are mainly determined by the age of the boy when the application is received. At the discretion of the Principal, some applications may be given preference on the basis of criteria such as family associations with the School and a boy’s potential to perform at an exceptional standard.
For the current fee of $25, there is no doubt that an application for a place at Scotch is an outstanding investment in a child’s education. Families interested in submitting an application should contact the Admissions Office (tel. 9810 4203) as soon as possible.Scotch College: ABN 86 852 826 445 ACN 005 650 395 CRICOS 00624A (Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students)
