Athletics is open to any boy who wants to compete. You don’t have to be the best; just have a desire to run, throw or jump and be prepared to take part in the training sessions. Every boy has the opportunity to compete in as many events as they want during the lead up meets each season and the APS team is chosen from these athletes. We compete in sprints, distance, jumps and shotput events and there are plenty of relay spots to fill. Each season there are always injury problems which create openings in the team, so the more depth we have in the squad, the better.

Junior athletics is run separately during the first 3 weeks of the season as a Form competition, but boys who are keen to join the Junior APS squad are encouraged to come to training and compete on Saturdays with the senior squad when the Form competition finishes.
Training will be held on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday nights after school. During this time boys will receive fitness training and specialist coaching in their areas of interest. The first session will be on Monday August 11th and will be followed by a barbeque sponsored by the Athletics Parents Group.
This year we have entered two senior and two junior teams in the All Schools Knockouts competition. This involves teams of 10 boys competing in athletic events. The heats for this competition were held on August 29th and our two senior teams were placed first and equal second in our region. This means that they will compete in the State Finals competition on October 17th at Olympic Park - more details as they become available.

Each year the Athletics Squad is assisted by an enthusiastic group of parents whose support is invaluable. They provide food and drink for the boys on competition days and present medals to boys who have been outstanding athletes through the season. There are also roles to help with other activities during the season. If you are interested in joining this group, or helping with Athletics please contact Jane Borthwick janeb3@tpg.com.au
