Welcome to the basketball pages of the Scotch website. These pages contain information for the Scotch basketball community and those wishing to become involved in the Scotch basketball community, either as players, parents of players, or coaches.
Scotch has an enjoyable, quality, team oriented Basketball sporting program. Students and coaches interact to assist the boys' physical and emotional development within the Associated Public Schools and wider sporting community.
Both Mrs Grace Cardaci, Teacher in Charge of Basketball and members of Scotch's basketball support group, The Slam Dunk Club, will be updating these pages with news, events, the newsletter 'Great Shot!' and more. So please keep visiting!
The 2008 Handbook is available in a 'pdf' version. Information about the season for parents' and players.
Building on the success of the 2007 Scotch basketball development program, this year sees the further enhancement of the program with the continued appointment of external coaches to the coaching line up, as well as basketball enthusiasts from the academic staff.
After two seasons in the Firsts coaching position, Mr. Lukas Carey will move back to the role of Director of Coaching to provide leadership and direction of the Scotch Basketball program. Mr. Randy Shanklin has been involved in the Scotch program for several years and will take up the Firsts head coaching mantle for season 2008. His direction and motivational skills are second to none and his coaching of the teams on the 2007 USA tour proved this. We look forward to seeing Randy take the Firsts to great heights.
Working with Randy will be Mr. Andrew Harms who has taken up the Seconds coaching position in 2008. His work in the younger age groups was amazing last year and he will continue to bring his professional approach to each training session.
In a coaching coup for Scotch Basketball, the coaching services of Mr. Nick Austin have been secured at the Year 10 level. Nick currently operates a well respected coaching and development business and has worked with many of Victoria’s best junior players. His experience adds to the already impressive Scotch coaching roster.
Matt Shanahan adds to the overall development of our senior program and rejoins the coaching staff focusing on the development of the Year 9’s. Matt brings to the program extensive experience as a current NBL player having played over 350 NBL games, and a former SEABL coach.
Returning to the program to continue their great work is Mr. Adam Nener (Year 8) and Mr. Mike Runchey (Year 7). Adam and Mike worked tirelessly with the boys last year to improve the intensity and quality of the game. Joining the junior ranks is old boy Mr. Nick Allen who brings playing and coaching experience to the Scotch coaching panel. Nick was a long time player in the program (2006 Firsts) and now gets his chance on the other side of the bench. He will join Scotch stalwart and coaching guru Mr. Rob Hortin, shaping the new Scotch basketballers and forming the base for years of success ahead.
