The Cardinal Club is a parent and old boy support group that organises a range of activities to futher enhance rowing at Scotch College.
The Scotch College boat club consists of four sections:
Barwon Club, Head of the River Crews (2000 metres)
Yarra Club, Year 10 eight oared crews (2000 metres)
Mitchell Club, Year 9
Christie Club, Year 8
The Barwon club comprises the senior VIII's that will compete at the Head of the River.
First VIII, Second VIII, Third VIII, Fourth VIII, Year 10 Division One, two and three.
The Student Record Book for 2007 has old criteria regarding awarding of School Colours for Rowing. Below is the correct criteria.
Full Colours may be awarded to members of the First Crew at the Head of the River regatta and to Year 12 students who are members of the Second Crew at the Head of the River.
Half Colours may be awarded to members of the Second Crew at the Head of the River regatta, and to Year 12 students who are members of Open crews at the Head of the River.
The Yarra club comprises VIII's that will compete at the Head of the River. (1000 metres - Year 10 Novice Divison)
In term four Year 8 rowers join the Mitchell Club. They row in quad sculls, VIII's, IV's and single sculls for training. Competition is in quad sculls, VIII's and single sculls.
Crews are selected by coaches in consultation with the Director of Coaching and Teacher in Charge of the Mitchell club. Crews compete in the APS Junior Regatta, one week before the senior Head of the River. Year 9 crews also row at the senior Head of the River.
In term four Year 7 rowers commence rowing. Emphasis is placed on learning to row in a single scull, moving from a tub (beginner) to a training scull. The rowing tank is used for skill development and ergometers are used for teaching the rowing stroke, but not for strength. Towards the end of the season there is some sweep oared rowing in fours and also in quad sculls. Do not compete until Year 9. Training sessions for the Christie Club are in the morning.
The Cardinal Pavilion is the home of rowing at Scotch College.
The Head of the River is rowed for the Fairbairn Cup. APS Head of the River winners since 1868.
To provide an enjoyable, quality, team orientated rowing program. Students and coaches interact to assist boy's physical and emotional development. Scotch College presents crews at APS and RV (Rowing Victoria) regattas.
Rowing at Scotch is a team sport requiring training and development of rowing technique. Strength and fitness need to be well developed to deliver the best on-water performance.
The Scotch College Boat Club boat fleet is orientated to training and competition in VIII's, quad sculls and IV's. Single sculls are used extensively for training and introducing students to rowing.
