The Soccer Development Squad had a very successful tour in New Zealand over the term 1 break with 3 wins and 3 losses against some very tough opposition teams.
The boys had a great win (2-0) to start off the tour against St Bede's College in Christchurch. Goals were scored by Anthony Tran (1st half) & Nick Jarman (2nd half). It was a terrific game played by all in great spirit.
The second game in Queenstown was a great experience playing the 1st XI of Whakitupo State State School recording a loss (2-4). Goals were scored by Anthony Tran and a magnificent 'crack' from Versace Wong from outside the box.
After 2 days of sightseeing, the boys were ready for their third match against Gore Junior Wanderers in Dunedin. Scotch won (2-1) with both goals by Anthony Tran. It was a high quality match with the two goals scored well into the second half before the opposition scored in the last minutes with a penalty.
The fourth game of the tour also played in Dunedin was against a very talented 1st XI team of year 12/13 boys and Scotch was unfortunately defeated (2-6) (both goals by Anthony Tran) in very cold and wet conditions.
The boys then travelled back to Christchurch for their last two games of the tour. The fifth game was against the first XI for St Andrews College, who is place 18th nationally in NZ. Our boys put up a great effort to only go down 4-1 (goal by Andrew Tran).
Notwithstanding numerous injuries, the final game of the tour against Rangiora High School resulted in a 1-0 victory. It was a very tight match, with the solitary goal scored by Versace Wong in the last five minutes.
The boys’ behaviour was exemplary and a credit to their school and their families – well done team!
