Swimming – Coaching Information

During the off season, we have restructured our swimming coaching panel and made some alteration to training times.

We welcome Ryan Nolan who has been appointed as Head Coach. Ryan has been highly recommended by former Olympian and OSC Matt Welsh. Greg Mc McMahon and Matt Wallace-Smith will be specialist coaches. It is also hoped that Matt Welsh will be available on some occasions to assist with training and motivation.

Ryan has kindly provided some background information as outline below.

“ I’m excited to be involved with the Scotch swimming team, a team that has such a successful history winning so many APS premierships in the 90’s and early 2000’s.  I’ve had the benefit of knowing several previous coaches of the team and along with what I’ve learned from them look forward to bringing some new ideas that I’ve learned from my time in swimming both in Australia and overseas.

I am a bronze license swimming coach and have a Bachelor of Applied Science in Sports Coaching & Administration and also a Diploma of Education where I am a both a phys ed and commerce teacher, I’m currently studying for a Master of Education where my research is into what barriers elite level swimmers face when trying to complete a tertiary education.

I currently swim for Melbourne Vicentre swimming club where some of my highlights to date have been winning medals at Australian championships in relays and also making individual finals at Australian championships.  I also look back very positively at my achievements in school swimming where I attended St Bernard’s College in Essendon, where I won the 100metre freestyle trophy four times and was a part of two ACC championship winning teams. Outside of the above I’m involved in Surf Lifesaving where I patrol and compete for Anglesea and am also an avid Western Bulldogs supporter. “
