Scotch College Basketball Coaches Appointed For Season 2009
As season 2009 approaches Scotch Basketball is excited about the coaching staff we have put together. Director of Coaching, Lukas Carey, who returns for season number 5 at the helm of Scotch Basketball, has worked hard to put together the best possible coaching staff available to ensure the consistent improvement that the program is experiencing continues.
Steering the Scotch Firsts for season 2009 will again be Randy Shanklin. Randy has had several years in the Scotch program with nothing but positive results. Coach Shanklin shares his time in Australia with time in the USA, but when in Melbourne gives his heart and soul to develop our players and program.
RandyŐs right hand man last season was Andrew Harms, who returns to take the Seconds. Andrew currently plays SEABL with Frankston and has been instrumental in the development of our top tier teams.
Nick Austin returns to prepare our year 10 players for open basketball play. His focus on fundamentals and work ethic has been a key in assisting our open coaches to fill future positions.
New to the Scotch College Coaching ranks is Kelvin Bowers. Coach Bowers is currently involved as a senior coach at Sandringham and has high level coaching experience throughout the USA and Australia. Kelvin has an amazing approach to the game and all athletes working with him will improve dramatically.
Adam Nener returns to the year 8 A/B teams along with Dan Nelson who complete the coaching staff at the year 8 level. Both Adam and Dan have a long history of basketball play with Adam playing SEABL currently and Dan having VBL level experience. Additionally Dan is a Scotch Old boy and past First team captain.
The Year 7 program takes a very different look for 2009. Newly appointed Teaching in Charge of Basketball, Mr. Rob Hortin returns after a very successful 2008 and brings with him organization, passion and most importantly pride in our program. Working with Coach Hortin are two Scotch Old Boys Kile Rogers and Sam Miller. Both have played Firsts basketball at Scotch and have been involved at representative level throughout Victoria.
This year also sees a great collection of current Scotch teachers taking the reigns as coaches and managers. Mark Mason, Renee Hill, Peter Riley, Linda Fiske, Neale Peters and Keith Oatley all take coaching positions with the program this year. It is impossible for other schools to match the dedication and experience that these coaches bring to the basketball program. All are accomplished coaches and have the respect of every child they coach. A better group of staff coaches you would not find.
The 2009 season already looks exciting with a coaching staff the envy of many APS schools, a new TIC and an ever supportive parentÍs support group, The Slam Dunk Club.
Our training times are in the process of being confirmed and will be printed officially very shortly. However, if anyone has any questions regarding the program please feel free to contact me via email at careyss@westnet.com.au.
Yours truly,
Lukas Carey
