Environmental Science [Semester Unit]

Rationale

The course is a general introduction to Environmental Science; the study of natural ecosystems and the impact of human activity on these ecosystems. It has a strong emphasis on practical work.  The course provides a solid
foundation for further study in Environmental Science, as well as providing a general understanding of the function
of ecosystems for those students who will not pursue further studies in this area. 

Student Outcomes 

  • develop an awareness of current human impacts on various aspects of ecosystems 
  • examine ways to minimize these impacts 
  • develop an understanding of the principles of environmental management and sustainable development 
  • develop practical skills in monitoring the environment 
  • participate in programs to manage the environment

  • Noise pollution.
  • Biodiversity.
  • Extinction events in Australia.
  • Re-vegetation techniques.
  • Health of Waterways.
  • Environmental Issues.
