A Detailed and comprehensive historical knowledge. Synthesized and interpreted information accurately in extended writing tasks. Detailed historical knowledge and well developed essay writing skills (appropriate introductions, thoughtful body paragraphs and conclusions, provision of evidence to support statements and contentions). Detailed and analytical written reflections on historical sources, such as primary and secondary written and visual documents. Few if any errors in tests and other assignments. Consistently found and synthesised a very wide range of sources, met the conventions of historical research such as bibliographies and quotations and drew logical conclusions from his reading.
B Sound historical knowledge. Interpreted information accurately in extended writing tasks. Quite detailed historical knowledge and developing essay writing skills as above. Thoughtful reflection on historical sources as above. Small errors in tests and other assignments. Needs to be more analytical. Found sources, met conventions of historical research and drew conclusions as above. May need to be more analytical.
C Satisfactory historical knowledge. Some accurate interpretation. Significant errors in one or more sections. Satisfactory historical knowledge and adequate essay writing skills as above. Satisfactory understanding and reflection on historical sources as above. Significant errors in tests and other assignments but adequate understanding of the essentials. Demonstrates satisfactory research skills as above, but needs to improve in one or two areas.
D Limited historical skills and knowledge. Substantial errors in several sections. Limited historical knowledge and essay writing skills as above Limited understanding and reflection on historical sources as above. Substantial errors in tests and other assignments. Limited research skills as above, but needs substantial improvement in several areas.
E Minimal historical skills and knowledge. Substantial errors in most or all sections. Minimal historical knowledge and essay writing skills as above. Minimal ability to understand and reflect on historical sources as above. Work significantly compromised by substantial factual errors and/or other deficiencies. Minimal research skills as above. Weak in most or all of these areas.
