Topic Tests Research and Communication Skills Practical Work Skills
A Comprehensive and detailed understanding of concepts applied accurately to previously unseen situations. Identified collected and referenced appropriate information thoroughly and accurately. Used this information to make valid predictions or conclusions. Information presented clearly and logically using an appropriate medium. Followed instructions, worked co-operatively and manipulated equipment safely and skilfully. Logical and thorough analysis of results; conclusions justified consistent with scientific evidence; reporting standards met.
B Comprehensive understanding of the concepts. Some responses lacked detail; some of the more intricate aspects of the course not fully understood. Identified and collected appropriate information mostly thoroughly and mostly accurately. Used this information to make some valid predictions or conclusions. Information presented clearly often using an appropriate medium. Followed instructions, worked co-operatively and manipulated equipment safely. Logical analysis of results; conclusions justified consistent with scientific evidence; reporting standards mostly met.
C Satisfactory understanding of concepts, with some misunderstandings. Difficulty in accurately recall of some basic processes and/or applying knowledge in some areas. Identified and collected appropriate information; sometimes incomplete. Used this information to make some reasonable predictions or conclusions. Information not always presented clearly and logically; medium was not always appropriate. Followed instructions, though sometimes needed reminding. Worked co-operatively and manipulated equipment safely. Satisfactory but brief analysis of results; conclusions sometimes justified given scientific evidence; not all reporting standards met.
D Limited understanding in the skills and processes. Inaccuracies and an inability to apply knowledge to previously unseen questions evident. I Identified and collected incomplete information. Used this information to make incomplete or vague predictions or conclusions. Information not always presented clearly and logically; medium was not always appropriate. Struggled to follow instructions; worked co-operatively and safely (with frequent reminders). Analysis limited; no conclusions drawn from scientific evidence.
E Minimal understanding of processes and concepts. Minimal information collected. No predictions or conclusions were generated. Information was presented poorly. Unable to follow instructions or work co-operatively with others. No evidence of analysis of results was given for scientific experiments.
