The objective of the Cardinal Club is to develop the interest and activity of Old Scotch Collegians’ Association and members of the Scotch Family in rowing associated with Scotch College.
Website: http://www.cardinalclub.com.au/ for regatta results and old boys in rowing.
The Club’s activities cover the broad categories of fundraising, social events, active participation and support.
Rowers Breakfasts: Parents participate on a morning roster to supply breakfasts for training crews in preparation for classes.
Fundraising: Funds raised are directed towards supplementary equipment purchases to support the School’s major capital expenditure eg. sculls, scull racks, oars, coaching punts and fitness equipment.
Merchandise: Merchandise is available for sale.
Head of the Yarra barbecue: The commencement of each rowing season is launched in Term 4 on the day of the annual Head of the Yarra event for eights. A barbecue is provided for all attendees and the Scotch eights row past the School boat landing.
Cardinal Cocktails: The Cardinal Cocktails is usually held in a private home and is open to all Scotch supporters
McMillan Luncheon: Held during Head of the River week in the Boykett Room and attracts many parents and former rowers.
Sunday Rowers Program
Members of The Cardinal Club are able to take advantage of the School’s rowing facilities on Sunday mornings (8.30 am). Novices to experienced oarsmen and women are invited. The Sunday Rowers enjoy social rowing and competition in Masters events as the Cardinal Rowing Club which is affiliated with Rowing Victoria
An excellent overview of Rowing at Scotch can be viewed from the Scotch Website http<://www.scotch.vic.edu.au/Sport/Rowing/Rowing.htm
Boys can start rowing in Term 4 of Year 8. Regattas are held throughout the season, which begins with the Head of the Yarra and culminates with the Head of the River held at Nagambie.
Tours: Boys have competed in the National Championships and at the Henley Regatta in London. The Club has strongly supported these tours.
Support From The River bank: If members are unable to participate in the activities outlined above, the boys always appreciate support on the riverbank and at various regattas at Carrum, Geelong (Barwon River) and Nagambie where the Head of the River is held. Help with the morning breakfasts is appreciated and is well organised with a roster system.
