Returning from a well earned holiday after an arduous 12 week term, there is little time to settle as the School moves back into its typically rapid pace in Term 3.
The Term break proved to be a vibrant one, with numerous activities taking place, including the Year 10 Outdoor Leadership Camp, SCUBA divers visiting Cairns and the Astronomy Club heading to Canberra. Unfortunately the Snow Sports camps were called off due to poor conditions at Hotham and Falls Creek. The holidays also saw the Open Rugby Squad tour Queensland, where they spent the week playing in driving rain, while the Year 9 footballers ventured to South Australia to play their annual match against Scotch College Adelaide.
Year 10 students spent their first week of Term trying their hand in different fields as they completed work experience. Hopefully the opportunity was enjoyable and the week gave them some insight as to future direction in their years beyond VCE.
This term sees the climax of the APS winter sporting season as our first teams vie for premierships. Our football and rugby teams currently sit at the top end of the table in their respective codes, and we wish them luck and give our full support as they begin their finals series. Our attention is also turned to the track and the pool, as athletics and water polo swing into gear for the spring season. I've heard that over 40 Year 8 boys have already turned out to begin water polo training – hopefully we'll have just as many keen athletes across the other year levels too!
Term 3 also encompasses the Foundation Day Concert, and I recommend that all parents, especially those of boys in Years 10 to 12 who partake in mass singing, buy a ticket and enjoy the excellent talent on display. From my experience it's a night that is exceptionally enjoyable for both students and audience members alike.
And in case anyone needed further assurance of how fast our time at school flies, Year 12 parents can be reminded that their sons now have less than 11 weeks left at Scotch!
I'm not sure if there is a calm before the storm during Year 12, but I'd suggest that now's about as close as we'll get to one.
Hope the second semester is a successful one for you all.
All the best,
Andy Bubb
