Dr Robin Batterham, Global Practice Leader Innovation, Rio Tinto spoke at the Scotch Parents’ Association Annual General Meeting in November.
He gave an inspiring speech about the importance of a scientific education in dealing with so many of the challenges of the future, particularly sustainability.
As the year comes to an end, we must say farewell to the Class of 2006. One of the most moving moments at the Year 12 Presentation Night was when the students stood as one, turned to face their parents and applauded to acknowledge their support and contribution. Guest of honour, Major General Maurie McNarn AO, Director Defence Intelligence Organisation, spoke with experience and authority about the values of his organisation. Our young men also take the values of engagement, participation, commitment, empathy, inclusion and a wonderful sense of community with them. To the Class of 2006 and their families, we would like to thank you for your wonderful contribution to Scotch over many years. We look forward to welcoming you back in the future.
The range of activities that the Class Representatives, Auxiliaries and Support Groups have created this year has been outstanding. I would like to thank all parents who have been involved in the activities of the Scotch Parents Association this year. To those Class Representatives and members of Auxiliaries and Support Groups standing down, thank you for your support and contribution. We are indeed fortunate at Scotch to have such an engaged and caring community of parents. Through your activities you are providing wonderful role models for your sons and demonstrating the importance of contribution to a community.
At the recent Scotch Parents’ Association Annual General Meeting, Ros Franet was elected as the President for 2007. Peter Dawson and Barb Hurley were elected as the Vice-Presidents. Congratulations to Ros and her team as they look forward to an exciting 2007. To those of you who have volunteered for Class Representative, Auxiliary or Support Group positions, congratulations and thanks. You will find your roles very fulfilling.
Finally, I would like to thank all those parents and members of staff who have assisted me during the year, in particular Ian Gelling, Nada Peacock and Sara Wilson who have done an outstanding job in supporting the Parents’ Association. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
