On the 25th of May, I delivered a speech at the annual Old Scotch Dinner. During this speech, I commented on the fine form of sports at Scotch College. Already this year, we have witnessed a victorious Cordner-Eggleston Cup and the fourth Head of the River win in a row. For me, witnessing the 5ths football side playing St Kevins' was right up there with the Cordner and the Head of the River. Every single boy was having a red hot go, and most importantly, was having fun. I am a strong believer that participation in sport makes you a better person. Sport develops strong relationships, provides healthy exercise and increases your ability to work with others. Therefore, seeing so many Scotch boys donning the cardinal, gold and blue on a Saturday gives me a real thrill.
If you have noticed the increased number of Scotch boys looking rather intimidating with shaved heads, don't be alarmed. This increase was the result of ‘Shave for a Cure’. Many Scotch boys were willing to lose their locks in order to raise money for leukemia research; and other boys, who took pride in what they see in the mirror, were happy to sponsor their mates.
Term 3 at Scotch College is all about entertainment. Scotch will firstly entertain you from the stage of the Geoffrey McComas Theatre with Pippin, showing off the musical, dancing and acting talents of Scotch boys with PLC on 2-4 August. If you need further assurance of Scotch's musical flair, come to the Foundation Day Concert (5 September) and expect to be blown away.
The School year is flying at a rapid pace, so you must keep up. I like to live by the motto, “Don't do tomorrow, what you can do today”. I urge you all to make the most of the remaining days in the year. Go and watch the 1st football side on the weekend, buy a ticket to Pippin, or join the SCUBA Club. Live life with no regrets!
