Five Head of the River wins is an unbelievable achievement and all the more impressive with our 1st crew also winning the National Championships.
Those of you who travelled to Nagambie were not disappointed despite some hot and trying conditions. The banks of Nagambie were full of colour and noise as students pointed out the attributes of their respective schools but it was Joshua Booth’s humility and respect for opposing crews when accepting the trophy that I felt was the proudest moment for those driving Scotch Rowing.
Cathy Emmett and her team from the Cardinal Club showed great adaptability organising the marquees and support for the onlookers to make it a day to remember for all. Not to be outdone, the Badminton Team also made it five APS Premierships in a row. Congratulations!
Term holidays often see Tours and the Services camps. Parents who are medical practitioners often support many of these excursions. Dr Ian Haines supported the rowers at Nagambie and Dr David Lindsay offered his time for the Cadet Bivouac. Taking time from a working week and volunteering their expertise is both generous and strongly appreciated by the School and parents alike.
For parents Term 2 brings a feast of Arts and Music. Our Music Auxiliary are busy with the Autumn Concert Series and we have already been treated to a great series of piano concerts in the Piano Festival and the ScotchArts program.
Debating is underway and a debating support crew are helping with meals.
Many Clubs have welcomed new players to the winter sports season with an opening function. For the 1858 Club, 2008 is special. Scotch football is in their sesquicentenary. The 2008 Cordner- Eggleston Cup is a sentinel occasion in this year’s calendar. I have asked Tim Shearer to supply some background to this event as a special report in the next Torch.
