Mission Week at Scotch was a week of special emphasis on the challenging message of Jesus and is a biennial feature of the Scotch calendar.
Traditionally it takes place in the last week of Term 2. This year the theme was Transformation – making all things new.
The mission team brought together by Mustard compiled a Scotch specific program dealing with three aspects of the issue.
Each of these program events was been a genuine multi-media game show style presentation incorporating film, theatre, DJ music, and even some straight talking.
In addition a number of young Old Boys visited some CE classes and there were some lunchtime activities including a DJ in the Tuckshop Quad. The Christian Movement organised a successful niche event, a Mario Kart Competition to raise funds for the Indigenous Students’ Program.
There was also a lunchtime finale on Friday with several youth organisations in the school yard, including the Salvos Youth Bus, and a (very good) punkstyle gospel band, Best Before.
Boys also had the opportunity to inspect a car once bought for ten pounds in 1959 from a Gippsland paddock. It is now transformed to become a restored 1923 Cadillac Tourer, perfect from its five-litre V8 motor to its wire wheels.
Bill Formby, an accomplished Gippsland car restorer gets orders for spare parts from around the world! He drove the Caddy to Scotch and told the boys how important it is to have a manual if you want to get the restoration right.
Bill personally commended the Bible as the ‘Maker’s Manual’ and encouraged the boys to use the life restoring model of Jesus. To which, under his breath, the Chaplain said, Amen!
