Day One, Term 3 2008 was not a normal day for the start of Term, as it saw the installation of Mr I Tom Batty as the ninth Principal in the 157 years of Scotch College.
The School Captains lit the Scotch Torch and passed it on to their new Principal, who greeted his new role with a broad smile. Later in an address to the School, and to Senior and Junior School parent gatherings, Mr Batty spoke of education, of broad development of our sons, of life balance and of a future mixing innovation with tradition. We welcome him and his lovely family and recommend that parents take the opportunity to introduce themselves when they see him at functions around the School.
Mr Ian Savage as Acting-Principal, along with Mr Ken Wheat and Mr Stephen Kong as Acting Vice-Principals have been outstanding in the interim. Their professionalism, availability, and work ethic have been greatly appreciated by the parents and on behalf of the SPA, I would like to congratulate and thank them for leading the School in this time of change.
The SPA has been working hard with the various Clubs and Auxiliaries to fulfil our requirements under the Working with Children Checks. If you are a volunteer you may be approached to complete this check. As an involved parent you are extremely important to the School and our active parents’ organisation. Please support this innovation to improve the environment in which our children can develop.
Term 3 heralds the finale for Winter sports, the beginnings of Spring sports and an arts and music program which adds to the vibrancy and colour of the School.
Congratulations to all sports teams on their achievements this season and particularly the 1st Hockey Team on winning the premiership for 2008.
For parents in the Montgomery Club and others who watched it was a great moment.
